M5 Talons of Night
Adventure
The largest of the Master-level adventures (48 pages), this module sees the PCs, once again in the service of Norwold, seeking some sort of lever to help prevent Norwold from becoming a wasted battleground before Thyatis and Alphatia clash there a final time.
The Isle of Dawn
This adventure finally brings detail to the large Island between the two comepting empires of Thyatis and Alphatia. Part of the adventure is given over to brief descriptions of the various features of this Isle. Those who own Dawn of the Emperors will already have better descriptions of most of these areas, but if you don't, then Talons of Night is a decent substitute. The module also goes into greater detail on the Kingdom of Thothia, and the Thothian Plateau.
Into Other Dimensions
After several quite interesting encounters, the PCs will travel into a number of truly unique Outer Planes that have their own set of strange rules (in one of them, the PCs gradually turn into undead!). Eventually they'll have the chance to affect some of the most powerful characters of Mystara.
Peace in Norwold
The ingenious Epilogue has the PCs acting in the roles of the different powers of the region, trying to gain the best possible deal for their nation. The outcome of these peace talks will decide the political climate of the region for years to come.
Should I use my own PCs?
M5 probably has some of the best pre-rolled characters ever created. These are so cool that they leave you with no excuse for not playing the adventure, even if your PCs aren't of Master level. The new stuff found in the adventure also includes monsters (Aranea, Dusker, Phanaton, and the unique Aketheti and the Night Spider) and an artifact of Koryis.
Conclusion
Of all the lettered adventures (B, X, CM, M, and IM) I've played, this is probably the one that I have enjoyed the most. There are so many cool settings and encounters, and I find the story of the adventure to be truly excellent. There's even info that expands considerably on Mystara (less if you also own Dawn of the Emperors). I highly recommend this one.
